Are your children old enough to sit, listen, and write down what they learned every Lord’s Day worship service? This Sermon Notes Writing Journal is designed to help form in your older children and youth the habit of paying attention to the preaching of God’s Word by writing down the biblical themes and points discussed by the minister or preacher every Lord’s Day (LISTEN).
Listening should proceed to learning. In this journal, your children and youth will also write down what they learned from the sermon about God and His Word, and what they learned about themselves (LEARN). And because God’s Word is meant for us to practice, they will also write down the truths they need to apply and the changes they need to make moving forward (LIVE).
You can also use this journal for one whole year (52 Sundays, or Saturdays) to guide your children deeper in their understanding of what was preached. At home, you can check their sermon notes and discuss whatever they wrote down. This way, you can gauge their spiritual progress as children of God’s covenant.
We cannot overemphasize the value of training our children in learning and loving God’s Word. At the same time, this sermon notes writing journal will also help us gauge our own condition or relationship with our Maker. Training our children in the way of life includes showing them what it means to trust God every day, even in the most practical situations.
